“Eguchi Dango” in Nagaoka, Niigata
If you have a chance to go to Niigata for skiing or snowboading by a car, “Eguchi dango” store is the MUST place to go.
Every time I visit my wife’s home in Niigata, I always stop by at “Eguchi dango” store.
This store is built of wood with Japanese traditional style . The atmosphere inside the store is fantastic where you can eat mochi dango or lunch as well as you buy them for to go.
Mochi dango sold here is the best in my whole life without no doubt. Let me tell you some tips about this store.
・Very old fashioned and traditional style of store structure
※Actually, the store is renovated from the traditional house.
・Has a cafe where you can chill with a coffee, tea such as hot green tea
and store you can buy mochi for to go
・The estimated budget per person is about ¥1000
・Different desserts depending on the season
ex. Shaved ice in Summer, Sweet red-bean soup in Winter
・Mochi here is made of one of the best rices in Japan
・The kawara, roof tiles, of the store are done by my father-in-law (my wife’s father)

It takes about 2 hours by driving if you drive from Tokyo, and it takes about 1 hour if you drive from Niigata city, and it definitely worth driving there.
